Crypton and Google are NOT solving the video deletion problem actively according to Crypton and our investigation. They are just collecting some information as written in J-CAST News on February 2, 2012. We received several unofficial letters from Crypton regarding this case 7, the articles from MikuFan.com written in April 16 and 23, 2012.

Here is more summarized information.

The big problems of their articles from MikuFan.com were that they removed the most of our promotion activity. We highly need to promote our new massage to change BIG misunderstanding in producer and other people as described above. We highly need help to maintain current situation in order to protect and investigate.

Despite the success of my message regarding the “Save Miku” movement reaching hundreds of thousands of fans around the world, there’s still something that a lot of the fans want: An official word from Crypton themselves. This is understandable, so Scott from Mikustar.com and myself have both sent messages to Crypton to ask for confirmation on the matter. We have both received the same response via email.

“Regarding SAVE MIKU Movement, the deletion problem has been almost solved and we have nothing to announce so far.”

Now, before you jump to conclusions, this can mean a lot of things. Due to how this was a global issue that had to deal with individual country’s copyright laws, it’s possible that there has been a lot of communication and paperwork done over this. These things take a lot of time, even if the initial problem of the false claims has been stopped. I’ve yet to see any new videos vanish from my own playlists for some time now, so it’s now likely that they could simply be working to finish things up.

Crypton has the intention of making an announcement once everything has been settled. So keep cool and keep and eye out for that, and stay tuned!

Vocaloid Video Deletion Issue “Almost Solved” according to Crypton Future Media

Crypton has declined to make an official statement but indicates that it is still working on this issue and is close to resolving it. The quote from Crypton:

“Regarding SAVE MIKU Movement, the deletion problem has been almost solved and we have nothing to announce so far.”

The issue of video deletions is complex, given the number of videos and accounts involved as well as the nature of copyright laws and the international scale of the events. It also involves a high degree of coordination between Crypton Future Media and Google/YouTube. Because of this, it is not at all surprising that it has taken some time to work through all the details in order to resolve the situation.

The important thing for fans of Hatsune Miku to understand is that Miku is safe. She is not going anywhere and she is certainly not going to be deleted. Hatsune Miku and other vocaloids have the backing of millions of fans worldwide and are also supported by successful companies in Japan.

I would ask that all fans of Miku step back and allow due-process to take its course. The fact is that we don’t know who the parties are behind this or what their motivations are. To make accusations against others based on rumor or supposition is certainly not something that Miku would want us to do.

MikuStar.com and MikuFan.com will continue to provide Vocaloid fans with up-to-date information as it becomes available. In the meantime, lets enjoy the music, the videos, the voice and the beauty. The rest will take care of itself.

Background, Summary and Future Aim

Propose of the initial message from our previous staff was only informing to other person. Main message was "mysterious deletion has been happening". Initial aim of Project Save Miku was telling about deletion of videos in YouTube. It seems successful to announce. However, responses were too aggressive from oversea sometime. Therefore, we shifted more gently as written in New Objective+Message, Temporary Japanese Menu and Save Miku Overseas Wiki . For the initial step, we started INVESTIGATION first. We are still in this process.

Initially, Project Save Miku was not idealy supported by Original Producer of videos due to mis-understanding. It was found that many/most video in YouTube are copied and re-uploaded from Nico Nico Douga without permission from original Producer. There are BIG mis-understanding within Producers in Japan that we promote and help copying and re-uploading video without permission. However, it is not true. Due to mis-understanding, most of Producers may not read our message yet. Thus, if you find an original Producer, please show our new massage and ask for understanding of our activity. There is some possibility that some creator related people are helping to hide major claimers in small community.

It was found that many original Producer did not want copying and re-uploading video without permission. It also depend on individual Producer. Many Producers seems expecting some kind of contact even After secondary use of the video. It was discovered that it seems better to say hi, if you are using video for secondary use. Please check the condition for the secondary use or ask original Producer.

It seems important to leave the way to contact from Original Producer to secondary user (such as E-mail, Twitter, or Facebook). Original Producer may want to say Hi , thank you, or comment at later for feedback. They seems expecting what kind of secondary creation is done for fun. However, if Producer release the record from major record company, the condition may become different depend on Producer and record company.

Of course, there are many problems remain, chain of secondary creation seems relatively conserved in Nico NIco Douga/Video in Japan. However, it seems not well established enough within YouTube, between YouTube and NicoNico Douga, and during the English translation. Many original Producers of vocaloid videos did not interested in recovering re-uploaded video in YouTube. Thus, we changed the direction. We started to inform and study how to prevent or reduce unwanted copying also.

It was found that some deleted account may copied and re-uploaded 100-1000 videos from Nico Nico Douga.

During the investigation, it was started to find that translation of video from Japanese to English may have problems. It was found that relatively large amount of mis-translation may be occurring. It was realized that translation of lyric is translation of poem. Thus, It is very difficult. Translation of poem is highly difficult than normal translation of books or text.

It was found that English translator did not understand the meaning of Japanese lyric before translation. Some awful translation were occurred according to other site, user and Producer. Translator changed the meaning opposite during the Japanese lyric interpretation. English translator changed the meaning of lyric during the mis-translation. They only translated one sentence each time;but, did not fit the meaning of entire lyric enough. There is a few excellent translator also.

According to Japanese Producer and translator, it is very important to think several sentences (phrase) since the meaning of Japanese word can be sometime taken by several meaning within several sentences (phrase). There are comment that when Enｇlish user learned simple conversation of Japanese, English user thought they already learned enough, then they started to translate, and then awful mis-translation may happen. Japanese translator is also telling that since lyric is poet, it is relatively difficult to translate, compare to normal Japanese. They are also telling that if a English translator can not write Japanese (by hand writing), it is not proper level to do translation of lyric.

Sometime, English translator may using automatic translation by using computer, such as Google translation. Several Japanese translators asked for the improvement/correction of words in the translated video site in YouTube. However, several English user may ignored. Then, we started to investigate if mysterious deletion may be initially targeted to unwanted or bad translation also. There is minor comment, claimer SASA-X-JUN may only targeted to the account of worse translation with bad attitude.

According to some Japanese translator of lyric, if an English user started to understand Japanese, the English user feels happy about it. Then, an English user tries to do translation from Japanese video even language level is not enough. If the translation is used in English video even with bad translation, the translator wouldn't notice and feel happy about it. Most of international fan does not understand mis-translation or does not realize the bad translation from it. Then, if international fan like the video music, translator may think it is OK and feel proud about it. English translator continues to translate lyric of other songs without negative feedback of bad translation.

It was also reported that in the case of Fansub of animation, native Japanese and English speaker are double checking for translation. Then, the quality of translation maybe relatively high.

It was started to discovered that original Producer of the video may have right to change the unwanted translation of the lyric. However, many English translated video may not have permission for translation. Thus, it may better to make the way of contact with Original Producer and translator.

Most/Many of the English translated video was uploaded without permission (or without contact) from Original Producers. It seems no significant contact to Original Producer yet at the time of translation and re-uploading. Thus, we needed to change the direction of Save Miku Project to fit the opinion of original Producer. We change the direction to investigate first instead of asking to recover video.

Protection of Vocaloid video is not only the way to Save Miku. Protection of creative environment is also important according to creator and Producer regarding Save Miku to produce new video and secondary work. Where to upload is the only one of the actual right for minor/introductory Producer, according to P. Proper secondary use and protection of the chain of creation may also Save Miku.

We started to check most of Vocaloid video in YouTube almost EVERYDAY as partly written in Daily Check of Deleted Video. We developed some process to check most Vocaloid video in YouTube. This Daily Check of Video may became strong force to mysterious claimer. However, we lost manpower more that 70% after initial 1.5 months. But, we could not ask to join if we don't know the person's background or opinion enough since it may possible that anti-miku fan and anti-Korean activist may be included in investigation. Thus, we still need help very much.

Meanwhile, translation of Japanese into English is started to help international user, Japanese Producer, and Fandom. During the investigation and studying, it was found that many regulation and guides are written in Japanese. It was not translated into English. We also started to ask original Producer to submit the permission condition for secondary use of video. Statements from producers and copyright holders is started to make.

For International Creators and Fandom 【国際的に活動されるP、クリエイター及びファンの為のページ】

One of the Goal is added "Collaboration on Vocaloid work between Japan and the West.". In order to find more interesting topics for Original Producer and Vocaloid Fan, sub topics were under discussion slowly. (Project Miku etc, Community is still under discussion and construction slowly.)

It is under investigation by Miku fan volunteers. It is advisable to confirm the permission from Original Producer. At least, it may better to say hi and leave contact way from Producer. It may also important to do proper refer of original creation including URL.

We found [anti-Korean activist, spammer, anti-Japan activist, fake Japanese who is acting as Japanese to make bad impression] may trying to use Vocaloid from February 2012. It was discovered that the anti-Korean activists are also using SAVE MIKU project to promote their campaign. We are asking NOT to stimulate NOR respond the anti-Korean activists who are sitting in the comment place of the YouTube video as written separately. Thus, please try to discuss more detailed topics of Vocaloid with other Vocaloid fan in order to reduce the intention of anti-Korean activists. They may made more than 1000 spams to our related sites before.

Then, MikuFan.com wrote the following articles and started the campaign about Stop Posting "Save Miku" without asking us and without knowing us enough including our Website. Crypton and Google are NOT solving the video deletion problem actively according to Crypton and our investigation. Crypton and Google are collecting some information as written in the News in February 2, 2012.

However, they may wrote wrong information. They thought problems are almost solved, nothing is happening and no one is doing about Save Miku Project. They thought Vocaloid fan are blaming each other in the comment of YouTube. They probably didn't know about anti-Korean and anti-Japan activists. They may started to Stop Posting "Save Miku" campaign with wrong or inaccurate information.

Who is going to take care to solve many problems?

We also found many problems related to Vocaloid community and SAVE MIKU during the investigation. Since Crypton and Google are NOT actively solving many problems, someone have to take care to solve problems including We also found many problems related to Vocaloid community and SAVE MIKU during the investigation. Permission problems for secondary use are also remaining for international user in YouTube. Please understand that it is NOT possible to copy video and re-upload in Nico Nico Douga without making problems. It may cause simple deletion of videos by P in NND. However, it has been happening in YouTube. Who is going to take care? Please read our report and summary page of this Wikia.

Thus, we have to investigate this case7 as [MikuFan.com] for about 2 months by using many man power. They actually stop other investigation and studying by taking time too much. We still don't have enough time to make our wiki sites due many other activities. Please see followings for more detail :

However, we are within top 1-3 of Google search by typing keyword "save miku".

In the next pharagraph, J-CAST News wrote as further discussion and posibilities infromations based from internet user discussion. [ J-CAST News wrote, even who deleted videos is unknown, there are several kind of possibilities.  One of the posibilities is London Olympic voting when Miku get Best 1. Before Miku get best 1, Korean POP musicians were keeping Best 1 and other high positions. There maybe somekind of attack to MIKU. J-CAST News also wrote about other possibility, someone related to stakeholde or concerned interested individuals. But, truth is unidentified yet.]

Then, news article from MikuFan was read over 10000 people in 24 hours. It reached 13000 people at later. Then, the confused information was started to spread.

4) The writer of MikuFan.com (Mr. "jrharbort") and Mr. Scott from MikuStar sent a letter and his article to Crypton in order to confirm about SAVE MIKU movement and, asked Crypton to make official announcement about SAVE MIKU movement.

There was no comment about Google and Crypton in the letter from Mr. "jrharbort" sent to Crypton. Crypton did/may not know about the writing of the article in detail. URL link of the article published on April 16, 2012 was shown in the letter.

8) The information from the articles of MikuFan.com were spread to many places. Then, some person related to us, asked to Crypton in order to confirm if their information is correct or not. There were reply to that person as follows:

The writing were all done by using Japanese language. There were large amount of text. We saw the original text, and translated major point into English as follows. Therefore, no significant mis-communication may happened during Japanese.

The writer of MikuFan.com, Mr. "jrharbort" also asked some other person related us to contact to Crypton directly in Youtube. Some person related to us told Mr. "jrharbort" in YouTube to wait for publication until confirmation including Crypton.

(If there is some wrong translation/communication, we would apologize in advance.).

Crypton will not make announcement about this problem in future, basically.

Crypton did not announce officially that deletion problem were nearly solved.

Crypton said that they heard about deletion problems in YouTube, about 2-3 months ago (in J-CAST News February 2, 2012 and Anime News Network on February 2, 2012).

Crypton is not in right place to make an official announcement, according to Crypton. They are telling this is not the business of Crypton, basically.

Thus, solving or not solving of this problems, regarding the deleted video is NOT the official concern of Crypton, according to them. Crypton is nothing to do with it officially.

Following is not correct or inaccurate according to Crypton and others, since they did not announce yet.

Here is more summarized information in better English.

The problem of video deletion is basically between the person who posted video on YouTube and the person who applied for deletion of the video. Crypton Future Media has never become involved in it at all. Also Google and Youtube just delete videos on the basis of Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) and they do not become responsible for solving this problem proactively.

Crypton seems supporting the followings idea (of Save Miku) basically:
1)　Surveillance (patrol) and Investigation of deleted video problem
2)　Thinking of problems about video copy and re-uploading without getting permission form Producers.

3) We started to inform and study how to prevent or reduce unwanted copying and re-uploading.

Actually, Crypton collect the information. Did not officially involved in solving problem. The problem is between YouTube video account owners, YouTube/Google and The person who asked to delete video (Claimer).

How do we investigate, analyze, try to get the clue to solve problems

We are discussing and doing the investigation everyday. We are Miku fan volunteer. Almost everyday, some us has been checking most of Vocaloid video in YouTube to compare the condition of video from yesterday. Condition of Vocaloid videos has been checked almost everyday by using some method. These kind of fundamental activity forced to stop mysterious deletion and help INVESTIGATION.

However, Precaution of everyone is also seems very important.

Miku fan volunteer related to SAVE MIKU Project is doing investigation, Daily checking of Vocaloid video, discussion, translation of documents, development of software to prevent, asking Producer for the condition of secondary use, trying to develop the system to prevent unwanted copying and re-uploading, finding the problems of lyric translation, trying to contact international site sometime, construction of Website sometime, and many other things.

Please do not write too much in your Web page without knowing actual part of our activity.

Thus, deletion checking is not over yet. Just became relatively stable. maybe.

These kind of INVESTIGATIONS are doing by minimum/a few persons. If we lost several person, deletion checking will be stopped.

We also highly need some person to make these wikiA website for adding information. We don't have enough person to make these website. Our current analysis with investigation

1) There is no evidence from Mr. SeyrenLK to suppor this information: The problem with video deletions had been solved by Google and Crypton over two months ago, and they even confirmed that the Koreans had nothing to do with it.
(Mr. SeyrenLK is uploader of Live concert video). ) Thus, there is no evidence to support the initial article yet. If Mr. SeyrenLK have a evidence, it may important to show us in order to prove the information quickly. We are trying to find the evidence.

There is/was these kind of mis-translation in several Website.:

This person has been watching SAVE MIKU Facebook Website. But, if you see this facebook Website, most of the person is already very stable. No one is blaming in their Facebook. Spam are reduced in 2ch. Massive video deletion is already became stable. Thus, this person may felt almost "the deletion problem has been almost solved".

We may also think exactly the same opinion if we saw the SAVE MIKU Facebbok. Since the deletion problem became relatively stable, some of us try to rest from March, a one month before the letter of Crypton. Number of spam activity were highly reduced. Some of us enjoyed live concert of Vocaloid in March.

The writer of MikuFan.com (Mr. "jrharbort") was/seems mainly watching YouTube regarding blaming in the comment of the video, and some other Website. The writer of MikuFan.com did not know very heavy spam and many other dramatic incident in Japanese Website regarding the video deletion and SAVE MIKU in January and February 2012. It was not possible to communicate each other due to very heavy spam.

This person (as well as We) may thought bad comment in YouTube video is relatively minor compare to many Websites happened before. Otherwise, relatively low intention/sensitivity due to non-native English user. Thus, we support the feeling of this person.

5) Crypton said that they NKOW about deletion problems in YouTube, about 2-3 months ago on Twitter and Japanese J-CAST News .

Since the information of the article of MikuFan.com ( and MikuStar) seems not correct, it may necessary to publish correction in the Website after double checking. Since they are asking to spread the incorrect news to many community, and actually doing, it may need to make correction notice. Then, send the noice and correct information to other Website which is accepting the direction of MikuFan.com and MikuStar.

The writer of MikuFan.com Mr. "jrharbort" may want stop if nothing is happening. There is a possibility that Mr. "jrharbort"and other person may not know about what kind of INVESTIGATION and other activity is on going. Discussion about Korean topics in YouTube

Korean topics and Vocaloid

It is important to offer proper information and teach how to protect or prevent. This is the main propose of this topics.

MikuFan.com wrote the articles in order to stop fighting within Miku fandom in YouTube video and some other site. They may thought if blaming within Vocaloid fan is stoped, the fighting may simply stop. Thus, they asked to STOP posting Save Miku in their article and spread to many others people.

However, it may not good approach. They may needed to study and analyze before doing. They shoud try to contact us before writing article to confirm, if it is good idea or NOT. Some of our staff and related person found the writer of MikuFan.com in YouTube, and asked not to spread inaccurate information regarding Google and Crypton without confirmation, and wait until confirmation from Crypton. However, they published and started STOP posting SAVE MIKU campaign.

We have been also trying to investigate and monitor anti-Korean comments from January 2012. We received 1000 spam per week regarding Korea in our Japanese related sites from the end of January 2012. We were not possible to communicate smoothly even in Japanese sites due to many spam. Compared to this, the comment in SAVE MIKU video in YouTube was very small part. It is very important to find who is doing. What is the objective for them? We found from many other Websites that there are several kind of specific people are doing as follows.

What is happening in Youtube?

It was found that many of semi-professional people started to wach SAVE MIKU video from about February 2012. They also started to watch introductory video such as WIM, PoPIP and others video of vocaloid. They are also watching the video which is showing Korean has problem. Sometime, thay are also watching the culture stealing of Japan by Korean. Thus, they are not vocaloid fan of normal user. You can see in their channel. They never uploaded the vocaloid video.

Many of them are only making comment. They are trying to tell Korea is problem including culture attack. It was found that some of them are clever and gentle. Some of them maybe relatively aggressive.

It was found that some pure vocaloid fan (including from oversea) is trying to stop negative comment in YouTube by responding to them. Such person may thought other miku fan is making negative anti-Korean comment.

There are negative comment within [1]. There are also negative comment between [1] and normal vocaloid fan [5].

If new ordinary people see the situation, they may think that vocaloid fan [5] may doing Korean related blaming each other. This IS the one of the MAIN propose of [2] anti-Japan activist/spammer which is very similar to other Website. such as right winger.

Solution

Thus, it may need to increase the percentage of ordinary vocaloid fan in vocaloid video site and SAVE MIKU related sites. It is very important to inform that do NOT discuss Korean related topics in SAVE MIKU related video site and other video site, antil tight evidence regarding involvement of Korea is obtained. If a person started to discuss about anti-Korea, bring the person to other free talking space.

Discussion about the Chain of Creation

However, if origial Producer realy want to delete the video, it is possible through administrator of Nico NIco Video. It is some how possible to contact by writing in Comment in Nico NIco video. Opinion of Original Producer about secondary use

It is very important to understand the opinion of Original Producer of the video. Here is the result of survey to original Producer in 2010 regarding secondary use. Relatively high percent of Producer want to be contacted if the video is secondary use is performed.

These are basically talking about Japanese language in NicoNico video and (some YouTube) for secondary use. Secondary use in English may be different. Simple copy and re-uploading is not included in secondary use. During the secondary use, the user need to add creation to original video.
